Dorothy Pilling

Who was she? Author of some celebrated works on harmony and plenty of small chamber pieces and songs. Teacher of composition, music history and harmony at the Royal School of Music in Manchester, now the RNCM. A friend of a much-loved elderly relative, now with the LORD, who passed some of her music on to me before she died, including a copy of the Vignettes for Piano signed by Pilling herself. But no wikipedia article or any other useful online source of info; I have no idea when she was born or died, which makes writing an intelligent programme note rather tricky.
